Cha Connaughton

25th Anniversary Queens Ambassador

Originally from Williamstown, Co. Galway, Jarlath “Cha” Connaughton came to America in 1983. After working in Connecticut and Florida, he settled down in Queens, New York and established his own contracting company – Dunmore Construction. Cha happily lives in Queens with his wife, Pauline, and their three wonderful children, Ryan, Justin, and Dervla.

Like many of our ambassadors, sport plays a key role in Cha’s life. From his time playing for his local team back home to his dedication to the Shannon Gaels here in Queens, Cha has always been very active in the GAA community. He’s even known as the oldest man – at 59 years and 2 months – to score a goal in Gaelic Park! In his downtime, you can often find Cha on the golf course, as he is the Club Captain for the Claddagh Golf Society. And, after cheering on his wife, Cavan-woman Pauline Briody, in the New York City Marathon, he became involved in the running community, too. It’s no wonder Cha has found himself promoting the Aisling Center’s own fitness challenge.

Cha is a proud member of the Irish community in Queens. With great friendships forged throughout the years, he feels right at home there. The Queens Irish community reminds him of his own village back in Galway, where the sense of community is real and everyone is always willing to lend a hand and support people in times of need. Cha himself lives out these values by taking on leadership roles within the Shannon Gaels and contributing to a variety of fundraising events, whether it be as a committee member or auctioneer. He has always believed that it is better to give than take!

We are very proud to have Cha represent us as we celebrate 25 years. You can join him for our Queens 6K race in Juniper Park and attend the after party at Gibbons’ Home on 69th Street.
